Royal Hospital Chelsea
London Attractions : London Sightseeing
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Royal Hospital was built by King Charles in 1692 to care for soldiers. Parts of the buildings were heavily damaged in the First World War and by a V2 rocket in 1945.
The Royal Hospital takes applications from former soldiers over the age of 65 with no dependant family to become a Chesea Pensioner. The grounds, the chapel and great hall can be freely visited, but the museum and guided tour must be booked in advance.
